inspired by: malibu nights by Lanytags: break up, exes to lovers, mention of addiction, angst, jungkook is lostjungkook moved to new york to follow jimin and his dream of becoming a worldwide known model. their relationship always held strong — when things weren't good, they always had each other...but lately jimin — you see, becoming a model isn't easy, but for him it has been. his beauty too hard to pass, so he got called immediately. and jungkook could never have been happier for him. but explain to him why jimin had to break up with him to follow his dream? why, in the midst of everything that could be changed and replaced, jimin had to replace him?
jungkook doesn't even know what the fuck to do in new york, he guesses he's just going to keep producing songs like he always did. that's the good thing of being a producer: he can work wherever he wants. he did it back in busan, then seoul and now new york. the big city, the city of opportunities and endless nights.
the problem is that jungkook is useless since jimin left. just like their apartment is. jimin took away the furniture he bought and jungkook is left with the guest bedroom's bed, the kitchen without the oven, the living room with the armchair and not the sofa.
he's also left with a hole the size of central park in his chest. but he refuses to say anything to anyone, he deals with the heartache, the broken heart, the teary eyes in the middle of whatever action he's doing and the pillow wet with tears at night. if he drinks one whiskey too many...well there's no one to see him collapse and not even making it to the bed, sleeping on the floor most nights.
it doesn't matter that the new friends they made reach out to ask if he's doing okay or if he needs anything. it really doesn't because he lights up another cigarette and deals with it on his own.the thing is...months go by and suddenly the billboards in times square are full of jimin modelling for chanel, then for louis vuitton, ysl, dior and even calvin klein. and jungkook, despite feeling his lungs squeeze and his heart in his throats, can't help but be happy for him. that's what jimin dreamt for the longest time and jungkook always knew he'd make it...he just thought he would be next to him to witness it and congratulate him with a kiss and a celebratory fuck.
he deals with all of it on his own: he writes and produces in a way he never did and, without noticing, he becomes quite famous too. people keep reaching out to him.
though the apartment is still half empty and he doesn't really care about the proposals or the fame, everything is blurry. he feels so broken that he doesn't even notice how lonely he got. he doesn't notice how he hasn't reached out to anyone in weeks, not even his parents.then one day, no a night. jungkook doesn't even know what hour it is, he's half a bottle of whiskey down his empty stomach and it doesn't hurt. when he drinks, the ache deep in his bones feels a little more weightless. but someone is knocking on the door and, while he doesn't expect anyone, he goes to open on unsteady feet.
he thinks he's hallucinating, maybe he finally got so bad that he's imagining jimin coming back. because jimin is standing there and jungkook has no idea what to do or say.
his heart is beating so fast he fears it might jump out and into jimin hands, where it always belonged.
"hi" jimin says and his voice is unsure, his expression is one of someone who's ashamed and also worried. because jungkook is drunk out of his mind and it doesn't even seem to be the first time this week.
when jungkook opens his mouth, no sound comes out. until realization comes — that jimin is real, he's here and he's talking to him — and a sob forces its way out of his mouth, hurting his throat and wetting his cheeks with tears.well that night they talk and end up back together obviously because i'm weak for them and exes to lovers is my favorite thing ever.
